TRTER 2017 Wrap Up

August 8, 2017

It’s hard to believe that a week has passed since the Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs 100 mile, 50 Mile and 55K. Mother Nature provided us with nice warm weather, a little snow to play in and a spectacular sunset over Lake Tahoe. It was a magical sight that will not be forgotten by  those who were lucky enough to be on a ridgeline on the Tahoe Rim Trail Saturday night. I’ve seen a lot of photos from runners that captured the moment.

Congratulations to our race winners:

Ryan Weible of South Lake Tahoe, CA won the 100 mile in 18:29:09 and the incomparable Roxanne Woodhouse  of Weaverville, CA won her fourth TRT 100 mile in 24:42:44. For the first time in TRTER history a women won overall in any of the distances. Rory Bosio from Truckee CA won the 50 Mile race in 8:27:56, also a new women’s course record.  Bob Shebest of Windsor, CA won the Men’s race in 8:38:59. Ben Tedore of Reno, NV ran the third fastest time on the 55K course to win in 4:45:47. Rebecca Murillo of San Francisco, CA led the women with a winning time of 5:58:57.

To all of you that made it to the finish, congratulations. For those of you that took the start of this journey but didn’t make it, congratulations for having the courage to start and giving it all you had.

I’d like to also thank the amazing volunteers that help make this race so special. The ski lodge at Hobart, the huge aid station at Tunnel Creek, Alice and Wonderland at the bottom of the Red House, the little water stop perched on the ridgeline Bull Wheel, the Diamond Peak lodge deck, the boy scouts that come out to greet every runner by name on Snow Valley Peak, the Flintstones at Stonehenge 50 Mile, and the cub scouts with the water stop at the Spooner summit turn to the finish.  And how about the finish line Ultra Lounge vibe? Lake side on Spooner Lake, with great food, great beer from the Brewer’s Cabinet, the Monsters of Massage. And the merchandise store all right there for you.  And the best-looking finish line chute with the international flags. I can’t forget to thank Kati Bell and Dan Fuller for the hard work to make the shuttles work so well all weekend. They are all an amazing crew and it’s an honor to work with them.

Thank you to our Sponsors Patagonia, Clif Bar, Diamond Peak Ski Resort, Reno Running Company, Brewers Cabinet, Succeed SCaps, Black Diamond, Starbucks Roasting Plant, The Fox Brew Pub, Injinji, Ryp Wear, High Desert Drop Bags, Squirrels Nut Butter, Mars, Carson City Visitors Bureau, Joe Trailman Gaiters, Monsters of Massage and the Bodhi Tree massage school.

The 2018 will be July 21-22, 2018. Registration for the 2018 lottery will open on December 3rd, 2017.

All the best for your running endeavors for the remainder of 2017. Be well.

THE CLOCK IS TICKING…

June 9, 2017

As Go-Time Approaches, here’s the latest from TRTER.

Hello Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runners,
We are super excited to present a new and improved race website so it’s easier for
you to find all the sweet nuggets of information like maps and schedules.  Be sure
to check it out and bookmark the new domain:
https://trter.com/ [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=bem6zu9ab.0.0.zzqma9n6.0&id=preview&r=3&p=http%3A%2F%2Ftrter.com%2F] One feature is a countdown clock showing how many days are left until the race.
Yikes I didn’t know it was going to scare me too! We are under 40-days.
Another exciting feature is the pacer/runner forum created by Real Endurance for
TRTER. Now runners can communicate with each other if they are seeking a pacer
or if they are offering their pacing services. It can even be dialed in to gender
and pace. So, if you are looking for a pacer or know someone who wants to pace you
need to check it out.
I have been fielding many questions about the course conditions and what is going
to happen.
The good news is: Of the entire Tahoe Basin, the eastern shore where the TRTER takes
place has the least amount of snow and it’s melting fast. Currently the course is
still under 4-5 feet of snow so we are unable to travel into the backcountry to
check on the aid station locations. We will start venturing back there in the next
couple of weeks and will relay any recon information we have.  I can say there will
be snow on the course, it’s just a question of how much. Trekking poles and traction
devices like Yaktrax or Kahtoola micro Spikes are allowed.  I hope we are running
on mostly dirt with some snow drifts to cool down on…
The host hotels, The Plaza and Marriott Courtyard are completely booked for race
week. We have swung a deal with the Wyndham Gardens Hotel at the Max Casino [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=bem6zu9ab.0.0.zzqma9n6.0&id=preview&r=3&p=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.wyndhamhotels.com%2Fwyndham-garden%2Fcarson-city-nevada%2Fwyndham-garden-carson-city%2Foverview%3FCID%3DLC%3AGN%3A%3AGGL%3ARIO%3ANational%3A47854].
It’s across the street from the Plaza, so easy access to the shuttle buses race
morning and walking distance to the packet pick-up and downtown. A double queen
or a king room is $109 plus tax and includes some restaurant perks there at the
Black Bear Diner. Their phone number is (775) 883-0900, tell them you are with the
Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Run for your discounted rate.
For the 100 mile runners that still need to fulfill their trail work requirement
(anyone else for that matter) there are opportunities within Spooner State Park
this month. The Spooner Lake State Park Ranger is asking if I can round up any
runners that would like to help remove some blown down trees on North Canyon Road
either on Sunday, June 18th or the 25th. If you are interested please let me know
ASAP so that can be set up. Also, the Tahoe Rim Trail Association has set up a special
work day just for TRTER runners on Saturday June 24th. (Yes, that is Western States
weekend). They have a planned work day to drive you deep into the backcountry to
work on the TRTER course. You can bring your running clothes and run back out to
the Spooner Summit trailhead after the trail work. Register on the Tahoe Rim Trail
Association website:
http://tahoerimtrail.org/event/62417-spooner-north-work-day/ [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=bem6zu9ab.0.0.zzqma9n6.0&id=preview&r=3&p=http%3A%2F%2Ftahoerimtrail.org%2Fevent%2F62417-spooner-north-work-day%2F] Get out and work on your race course!
The Tahoe Mountain Miler running club is excited to host the 2017 Tahoe Rim Trail
Endurance Runs. We have runners from all over the United States, Canada, Mexico,
Europe, and 11 from Japan!  So, take care in these final 5 weeks before the race
and we’ll see you soon. Check out the website!
We’ll be back in touch soon with final inspections for the race, until then train
smart, don’t get hurt!

All the best,
